Perform independent chemical analysis in the area of rock-fluid interactions in support of an interdisciplinary research effort on enhanced oil recovery (EOR) at Purdue University. This individual should have academic training and work experience in analytical chemistry to support the following activities: (1) analysis of aqueous fluids, (2) analysis of oil and emulsions, (3) rock-fluid interactions, and (4) rock/mineral analysis. Supervise graduate students and postdoctoral researchers working in the laboratory. Manage laboratory data including recording, organization, and archiving laboratory data. Contribute to journal articles, report writing, and grant applications. Maintain laboratory equipment, purchasing of new equipment, inventorying supplies and equipment, ordering new supplies and planning the use of equipment.
PhD in Analytical Chemistry or closely related chemical discipline (e.g., environmental chemistry.)
One year experience with industrial/government experience in analytical chemistry or experience working in analytical chemistry in an academic lab as a technician (analyst that was not part of working towards a degree.)
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
Experience in conducting sorption and desorption experience under controlled conditions, familiarity.
Experience with extraction methods, Dean Stark analysis, purification of solvents, preparation of analytical standards and buffers, titration of samples, perform colorimetric assays.
Ability to independently use modern chemical, optical, thermal and mineralogical instrumentation (FTIR, Raman, UV-visible-NIR, HPLC/UPLC, powder X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, evolved gas analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry.
Aptitude to search for existing methods of analysis from the literature and/or develop new methods for chemical analysis,
Capability to write, implement, and follow standard operating procedures.
Knowledge of statistics as it relates to accuracy and precision of measurement; knowledge of experimental design; computer literacy.
Valid Driver’s License.
